emergency-dental-careThe American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) is a professional association of orthodontists in the USA. It is headquartered in Creve Coeur, Missouri, near St. Louis. They improve the public health by promoting quality orthodontic care.

Each member of the AAO is needed to study minimum 2-years in the official orthodontic residency. And the dentist may call himself an orthodontist only after receiving their degree certificate in orthodontia. About 95 percent of all orthodontists of the United States are members of the American association of orthodontists.

The AAO has more than 16,000 members in the USA, Canada and abroad. And they work towards the growth and advancement of the art and science of orthodontic diagnosis. Most of the orthodontists in the American association of orthodontists are also a member of the ADA – American Dental Association.

The AAO is affiliated with lots of other international orthodontic firms such as the Canadian Association of Orthodontists. In dental care, the Orthodontics is regarded as the largest and the oldest specialty by the American dental hygiene association these days.

The AAO has a charitable arm called the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation. The main goal of AAO foundation is to raise funds for supporting the various orthodontic educational programs and researchers for the ethical growth and advancement of orthodontics.

The AAO recently stated that more than 5 million people in the United States and Canada are getting care from the AAO. And around 20 percent of their patients are orthodontists. Because of this enormous increase in the number of patients, the number of orthodontists is increasing in the United States of America at the rate nearly 20 percent per annum and the future of orthodontia is bright and is predicted to do throughout 2020.

Because of the rise in patients in every part of the country, being a registered orthodontist is regarded as a secure profession and it has a 100 percent employment rate.

How to choose an orthodontist?

When you have a dental emergency and you choose your dentist or even when you visit a new dentist, ensure that the dentist is in the AAO (American Association of Orthodontists).

One more point that you need to look into is whether your dentist is certified from a reputed and recognized dental institution. For instance, such as the Harvard School of Dentistry, or the University of Louisville Dental School, etc. The reason is, it is your smile and with the right orthodontist, you can improve it and make it better.
